This month's Cloud Meetup will focus on the Pacific Research Platform. Launched in 2015 with a grant from the National Science Foundation, the Pacific Research Platform sought to build a high-speed broadband freeway for research in a variety of data-intensive scientific disciplines. The PRP enhanced network visualization and accelerated discovery in archaeology, particle physics, astronomy, and life sciences over a network of more than 50 institutions. At the same time, it offered learning opportunities to students at partner universities, including Historically Black Colleges & Universities and Tribal Colleges and Universities across the country.
Co-PI Dr. Camille Crittenden and Research IT's Chris Hoffman will present lessons learned over the course of the 6-year grant and discuss future research directions that will build on this work. They will also show a short documentary video that features projects and people involved in the Pacific Research Platform over its period of development, covering the Pacific Research Platform core science areas and drivers such as astrophysics, cyberachaeology, scalable visualization, virtual reality, and ultra-resolution video.
Everyone is welcome - this is a really inclusive group! You don't have to be an expert, or already know about cloud technologies; we get together so people can learn from each other.
CONNECT VIA ZOOM: Our Zoom connection info changes each month and is posted here in meetup invite. [Note: for security reasons attendees must be logged into a Zoom account]
