Research IT has recently joined the new UC Libraries' Digital Humanities Common Knowledge Group (CKG), hosted by the California Digital Library.Common Knowledge Groups “are standing groups of experts or pioneers in areas of interest to the University of California Libraries (UCL). The intention of CKGs is to foster innovation by providing a venue for staff across campuses and from various levels to exchange ideas and collaborate on systemwide initiatives at the 'Service Envisioning' stage. At this stage, new ideas are being generated for new services or improvements to existing services."
Digital Humanities Coordinator Quinn Dombrowski represented Research IT at the inaugural meeting of the CKG on January 12, 2015. While membership is typically limited to library staff, Research IT was invited due to the group's leading role in the Digital Humanities at Berkeley program.
As a first step, the Digital Humanities CKG will be developing a “DH at UC” document to share information about digital humanities activities at the individual campuses. A sub-group will work on providing recommendations to the CDL regarding how to tailor their services (e.g. UCLDC, eScholarship, DMPTool, etc.) to a digital humanities audience.
