The next Consulting Summit-- a partnership between the D-Lab, Educational Technology Services (ETS), the Library, and Research IT-- will be held on October 20th from 10 - 3 at the Berkeley Institute for Data Science (BIDS), in 190 Doe Library.
The Consulting Summit meetings to date have provided a valuable opportunity to build a community across organizational divides. However, increasing budgetary pressures are forcing all campus organizations scrutinize both their independent work and their collaborations, to ensure they bring the necessary value to the university. By focusing on the theme “Connecting Communities and Sustaining Connections”, this meeting will serve as an opportunity to continue to develop a consulting community, while looking critically at issues of sustaining our partnerships. The cornerstone of the summit will be a panel discussion of faculty, students, and staff — our consultees — about their experiences finding consulting help. University Librarian Jeff MacKie-Mason will serve as the moderator.
The emerging trends working group will be discussing current trends, soliciting new ones, and providing some guidance for how groups can work together to address new needs. The assessment working group will be presenting the findings of interviews with numerous campus consulting groups about how they think about evaluating their services. Finally, the consulting portal working group will present a prototype of a tool to help consultants find out more about what sort of campus services are available to support research and teaching.
