We are pleased to announce that Research IT Director Ken Lutz has been named the Chief Research Technology Officer (CRTO) for the UC Berkeley campus. In this new role, Ken will be collaborating with campus leadership across research, IT, teaching, and administration in order to cultivate solutions for a robust computational research infrastructure that supports our campus’ innovative research and teaching. His current interests include the design and implementation of the Global Data Plane, a secure data communications and storage infrastructure.

As Service Lead of the Research Data Management (RDM) Program, I am very excited to announce the launch of the new RDM Program website! Since its beginning in 2015, the RDM Program supports and advocates for campus researchers and their research data needs.
The UC Berkeley Cloud Computing Meetup is welcoming people to our first in-person meetup since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. (We will try our hand at making the event hybrid to accommodate both remote and local participation-- an experiment!) We are intentionally moving the event to 1:30pm on July 14th (just this month!) to coincide with the OneIT event on campus - since many of our remote staff will be on-site.
Want to know more about the latest updates on the Metaverse? Here is a little review and comment of it by Chris Hoffman!
Not sure what HPC stands for and why you might use large-scale computing? Running jobs on your laptop overnight? Unclear what “remote” means when it comes to working with data? This session will provide an overview of remote and high-performance computing terminology, architecture, and general workflows. We will also provide some case studies and information about UC-specific computing resources and contacts.
This event is part of Love Data Week 2022
Research IT is excited to highlight MyBRC, our new user portal for access management, which was released this August and is accessible at https://mybrc.brc.berkeley.edu.
